Exercise helps reduce the dangers of colon cancer
Syracuse, New York (WiredPRNews.com) — According to a new study, exercise can help reduce the risk of colon cancer but not all physicians inform patients about this simple fact which could prove to be an excellent preventative measure.

The study on the issue revealed that physical activity could lessen the danger of lung cancer, but only a few people in the U.S. are conscious of this fact. The study shows that roughly 14% of the cases associated with colon cancer can be attributed to a sedentary lifestyle. According to Elliott Coups, co-author of the study and his colleagues at Fox Chas Cancer Center in Cheltenham, PA from the Division of Population Science, those who get a good deal of exercise had thirty to forty percent less risk of colon cancer.

However, the survey data of 1,932 American adults who responded to questions asked in the survey on colon cancer, when analyzed, revealed that only about fifteen percent of them claim to do physical activities with the objective of reducing the possibility of colon cancer. The findings of the study have been published in the August issue of Patient Education and Counseling. The lack in awareness and knowledge about the connection between physical activity and colon cancer can be attributed to a number of factors.

In a news release of the Center for the Advancement of Health, Coups said that patients might not get the desired information from their respective physicians, doctors or health specialists. Also, adding to the statement, Coups said that the information about the prevention of colon cancer has not been as publicized as it could have been.
Even in cases where the patients have a family history of this type of cancer and other risk factors related to the disease, health care specialists find it better to inform patients about the general benefits of exercising on health rather than telling them about the most possible and effective measure of preventing colon cancer.
