Steele of Approval
Praised by the likes of Paula Radcliffe, Demi Moore and Shane Warne emu oil has many famous advocates, but as an unusual alternative remedy it has often been overlooked by the UK medical profession, despite being a registered therapeutic anti-inflammatory in Australia…until now that is.

Emu oil is a natural remedy that has been known about in Australia for thousands of years, its use originating in Aboriginal medicine. It has only relatively recently become available in the UK however and has relied on sports and film stars singing its praises to create awareness of it and its beneficial health properties. Today though saw Dr Chris Steele, who has just been awarded an MBE in the Queen's New Years Honours List for services to general medical practise and broadcasting, encouraging the use of the Aussie remedy.

There have now been a host of studies published on emu oil, which highlight its beneficial properties. It is perhaps best known for its anti-inflammatory ability, with research showing it is as good, if not better, at taking down inflammation that some commonly used high-street medicines. Whilst this has led to emu oil being used regularly by sports men and women looking for help with injuries it can also be used for everyday aches and pains, and research has helped highlight its potential use for arthritis sufferers.

The oil is also used as a skin care product with studies showing it can help speed up the process of skin cell regeneration. This has led to it becoming used as an anti-aging product, with the likes of Demi Moore and Goldie Hawn supposedly swearing by its youth enhancing properties. As with a lot of oils emu oil is also a fantastic moisturiser, Amanda Wakeley (one of the UK's leading fashion designers) claiming it is the one cosmetic product that she can't live without, but unlike other oils, emu oil has a score of less than one in comedogencity tests and therefore won't clog up pores. Furthermore because of its anti-inflammatory properties emu oil is thought to help soothe skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, sun burn and burns.

On the 'This Morning' show today, Dr Chris Steele MBE spoke about the potential of emu oil to help with arthritis, muscle and joint conditions, bruising, eczema and psoriasis. The hope is, now that such a highly respected medical professional has discussed the Aboriginal remedy in such a positive light, emu oil will start to be seen as a serious alternative for those looking for a safe and natural anti-inflammatory, and with no reported side-effects it could be of real value for those worried about the consequences of regularly taking oral anti-inflammatory drugs.

Europe's leading emu oil is Golden Emu Oil (featured on the This Morning show), which is of the highest possible quality and is the only emu oil available in the UK, and is also of a registered pharmaceutical grade in Australia. The Golden Emu Oil range, which includes muscle, joint and skin care products, is available directly from the Pioneer Trading Company by calling them on 01526 344971 or visiting their website at www.pion-tc.co.uk.
